Sports Industry and Community Development Immersion Trip

In May 2016, 8 Gettysburg students accompanied Katy Mattson and Tiffany Kurzawa of the Center for Career Development for a three day Careers in Context trip focused on the sports industry and community development. The trip highlighted the many ways that students can work in sports-related fields, including collegiate and professional athletics, the management of major sporting events and venues, and sports organizations/media networks and how they engage with the communities around them. Overall, it was an extremely informative and fun few days! Brand Marketing and Product Development Immersion Trip – Orlando, FL

In January 2016, six Gettysburg students accompanied Gettysburg alumnus and ValidFill CEO Greg Edelson ’87, P’18 and Kathy Williams P’07, Executive Director, Gettysburg College Center for Career Development on a weeklong career immersion trip focused on brand marketing and product development in the theme park and resort industries. Using Orlando, FL as our classroom, they took a deep dive into studying the competitive market space there, with 60+ hours of education and interaction with senior theme/resort industry leaders. Special emphasis was placed on product development and the partnership between Coca-Cola/ValidFill (and sister company Whirley Drink Works) at its client sites including Disney World, Universal Studios, Loews resorts, Merlin Entertainment/LEGOLand, and Sea World. The week culminated with a one-of-a-kind leadership experience where the students presented their insights to the Sea World corporate team including their CEO, Joel Manby.
